SRADev Nigeria past and present chemical management programmes and projects are based on its engagement in pursuing the protection of the environment at national and international level; strong and proven network of contacts among different national stakeholders; strong network of contacts with the national and state Government Institutions, as a member of National Chemical Management Committee member (NGO Representative) and UNEP SAICM National Focal Point. We have the requisite skills and have organised and acquired additional skills for the potential organisation of national and international conferences based on its affiliation with IPEN, ZMWG, WAMFD, HCWH and PAN over the years etc.

In this regard, since its inception in 2006, it has been involved in the following national and international activities related to Basel, Rotterdam, Stockholm and Mercury Conventions:

 Activities in Chemical and Waste Management

  • Participated as NGO representative at the PCB Management Project training workshop for Journalist and other stakeholders on the development of Communication strategy and plan: Nigeria Action Plan to Eliminate PCBs. Organised by the Federal Ministry of Environment (FMENV) at the Lagos Airport hotel on 27 August 2014.
  • Participated at the Training and Inventory of POPs workshop of GEF-assisted “Enabling activities for the review and update of the NIP for Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants project”. Organised by FMENV  in collaboration with UNIDO at the Conference hall, Veterinary Council of Nigeria, Abuja on 11-12 June 2014. Presented a Paper on “The State of POPs and other Toxic effluents in Lagos Lagoon – NGO intervention study”.
  • Official flag-off of the Inception/Inauguration of Project Steering Committee of GEF-assisted “Enabling activities for the review and update of the NIP for Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants project”. Organised by FMENV in collaboration with UNIDO at Minister’s conference hall, Abuja on 10 June 2014.
  • National Stakeholders Review Workshop: Draft Needs Assessment and Analysis of Gaps and Inconsistencies in Existing Legal and Institutional Infrastructures and Draft Chapter on Nano Safety and National Nano Safety Priorities. Organised by FMENV at Immaculate Suites &Apartment, Abuja on 4-5 December 2012.
  • UNITAR Nano Safety Pilot Project: Inauguration of the Nano Safety Project Coordination Committee, FMENV office, Abuja on 31 May 2012. SRADev as National member of the steering committee.
  • African NGO and CSO Chemical Safety Skillshare and Workshop, Dar es Salaam, 10-12 December 2012.
  • Participated in Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) and Associated UNEP Workshops (e.g. Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on 14-19 July 2008; Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire on 25-29 January 2010 etc.
  • National participation in Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) Implementation in Nigeria. Represented and presented several position papers at various workshops organized by the Federal Ministry of Environment (e.g. National Capacity Building Workshop to develop a National Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) implementation strategy organized by the Federal Ministry of Environment (FMEnv),Games Village, Surulere, Lagos on 19th October 2005; National Awareness Raising Workshop for the Civil Society organized by Federal Ministry of Environment, Labour & Productivity and the Consumer Protection Council in collaboration with Switzerland Government and United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) on the 8th November 2006
  • Implemented a Project on “Impact Assessment of Electronic Waste Handlers and Livelihood in Lagos, Nigeria”. An IPEN project sponsored under the International SAICM Implementation Project (ISIP), January-June 2010.

    • Regional Workshop for the Development of Regional Action Plan on Environmentally Sound Management of Used Oils in Africa, Lagos, Nigeria 6th -7th December 2004 organised by Basel Convention Regional Coordinating Center for Africa for Training & Technology Transfer and Federal Ministry of Environment with the Financial Assistance of the Secretariat of the Basel Convention (SBC/UNEP).
    • National Workshop on “Stakeholders Reflection on the Nigerian Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Situation at the Federal Ministry of Environment Zonal Office, Games Village, Surulere, Lagos on 9th March 2006.
    • National Revalidation & Priority Setting Training Workshops on “Enabling Activities to Facilitate the Implementation of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)” by Federal Ministry of Environment at Aguiyi Ironsi Street, Maitama, Abuja on 22-25 January 2007. Paper presentation on behalf of national NGOs.
    • National Workshop on the Implementation of the Rotterdam Convention in Nigeria. A workshop organised by the Secretariat for the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent (PIC) procedure for certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade, Federal Ministry of Environment, Housing and Urban Development,Basel Convention Regional Coordinating Centre for Africa (BCRC) and FAO at the University of Ibadan Conference Centre on the 21-25 January 2008. Paper presentation on behalf of national NGOs.
    • Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) and Associated UNEP Workshops. An international workshop organised by the SAICM Secretariat and UNEP in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on 14-19 July 2008.
    • Participated at African Regional meeting on the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) and Associated UNEP Workshops on Nanotechnology and industrials chemicals. An international workshop organised by the SAICM Secretariat and UNEP in Abidjan, Cote D’ Ivoire on 25-29 January 2010.
    • Policy and Stakeholders Sensitization Workshop at Regional Project to develop appropriate strategies for identifying sites contaminated by chemicals listed in Annexes A, B and/or C of the Stockholm Convention. Organised by UNIDO/Federal Ministry of Environment at the Reiz Continental Hotel, Abuja, Nigeria on 21 May 2010.
    • Regional Capacity Building Workshop on New POPs, The Process Reviewing and Updating National Implementation Plans and Reporting Requirements under the Stockholm Convention for the English Speaking African Region. Organised by The Stockholm Convention Secretariat, Geneva Switzerland and Basel Convention Coordinating Centre for the African Region, University of Ibadan at IITA, Ibadan, Nigeria on 16-19 August 2010.
    • Participated in Regional project to develop appropriate strategies for identifying sites contaminated by chemicals listed in annexes A, B and/or C of the Stockholm Convention – Nigeria and Ghana. UNIDO/Federal Ministry of Environment, Project Numbers: GF/RAF/07/024 and TF/RAF/09/008, 2008-2011. As IPEN focal point, coordinated national NGOs participation.
    • Community based Awareness Raising Workshops on Harmful Effects of the Re-use of Chemical Pesticides Containers. The project involves awareness/capacity building workshops in Ajido Community (Lagos State) and Mowe Community (Ogun State) sponsored by  Global Green Grants Fund (GGF), USA in August – October 2009.
    • Strategic Assessment of the Status of POPs Pesticides Trading in South Western Nigeria. An AGENDA/Pesticides Action Network, UK (PAN UK) sponsored project for Nigeria ASP Implementation Network (NASPIN) involving four NGOs (NES, NEST, SRADev, FOTE) in Ondo , Oyo, Ogun and Lagos States in January- June 2007
    • Identification (inventorisation) and Control of POPs Contaminated Sites (Hotspots) in Lagos, South-Western, Nigeria. An International POPs Elimination Project (IPEP), UNIDO Project No: GF/ GLO / 03 / 012 / 21- 01, UNEP Project No: GF / 2760 – 03 – PMS : GF / 4030 – 03 (Sept. 2005 – March 2006)
  • Conducted several local and international case studies on chemical management issues (BC, SC and RC) such as:
    • Global Campaign to Prevent Lead Poisoning/ International Week of Action on Prevention of Lead poisoning in Nigeria. In October 2013 Sponsored by IPEN
  • Strategic Plan Enhancing Local Pesticides Storage Capacity to Support the Nigerian-ASP Prevention Component’’. The 8-month project is funded by PAN Africa/ PAN UK under the UK Department for International Development (DFID) Civil Challenge Fund, ‘Civil Society Preventing Obsolete Pesticides in Africa’ May 2009 -August 2010.

  • Lead in Paints in Developing Countries- An Unfinished Agenda.  Global Study to determine Lead (Pb) in paints in Nigeria and associated campaign for its removal. A Project sponsored by IPEN/Toxic Link, India in 2008.
  • Strategic Assessment of the Status of POPs Pesticides Trading in South Western Nigeria. An AGENDA/Pesticides Action Network, UK (PAN UK) sponsored project for Nigeria ASP Implementation Network (NASPIN) involving four NGOs (NES, NEST, SRADev, FOTE) in Ondo , Oyo, Ogun and Lagos States in January- June 2007.
  • Concerted Community Approach/Action to reduce the Pollution load of POPs and other toxic effluents (PTS) into the Lagos Lagoon, Lagos State. A GEF/Small Grant Project (SGP) by UNDP for NGOs under the auspices of NASPIN (2011-2013).
